Division of Economic Support and Independence (ES&I)

The Division of Economic Support and Independence focuses on promoting economic stability and independence for single adults and families.

Child Daycare Assistance

Families with children who need daycare may benefit from this child-centered, family-focused, childcare assistance program. The Department of Social Services provides child daycare assistance for children attending center-based and home-based programs licensed or registered with the Virginia Department of Social Services.

Eligibility

Families with children under the age of 13 may be eligible for assistance if: 

  • They meet income eligibility criteria. 
  • The parents are in TANF or VIEW education and job training programs. 
  • The children are participating in Head Start. 

Families not participating in TANF or VIEW may be able to receive assistance by contributing only part of the cost for care.

Assistance is also available to families with children physically or mentally incapable of caring for themselves or under court supervision.
