Mission Statement

To provide efficient and effective support of assigned vehicles and equipment for the City of Richmond through responsive customer service in our maintenance, repair, fueling, replacement acquisition and disposal services.

Our goal is to work in partnership with our customer’s by identifying cost saving opportunities. We consistently measure our performance and set quantifiable benchmarks that are obtainable. We provide our customers with green vehicles, equipment and fueling infrastructure options that leave fewer negative impacts on the environment.

The Fleet Division:

  • Provides maintenance, acquisition, repair and replacement services of the City's fleet
  • Services more than 2600 units [vehicles, trailers, lawnmowers, etc.]
    • Supporting various equipment ranging from light duty/heavy trucks and fire apparatus
  • Completes approximately 1200 maintenance work orders monthly
  • Our mechanics have certifications through the following programs:
    •  Automotive Service Excellence [ASE] 
    • Compressed National Gas [GNG]
    • Hybrid and Electric Vehicles [EV]

The Service Desk is responsible for writing all work orders. They schedule services for our customers and is responsible for calling in tows for disabled vehicles. The Service also dispatches technicians for road calls.

The Automotive/Light Duty and Fast Line Shops are responsible for all maintenance, repairs, and inspections of automobiles and light duty trucks. The Car shop is high volume fast paced environment processing approximately 20 to 35 work orders a day with preventative maintenance services completed in about 45min. To aid in a quick turnaround time for waiting customers we established a fast lane concept which has a dedicated tech available to expedite quick maintenance or repair items.

The Fire Shop handles all maintenance, repairs, and inspections for all fire apparatus and emergency vehicles. In support of Richmond's 18 Fire Stations, this shop has technicians on call 24 hours a day

The Medium/Heavy duty Truck shop is responsible for all maintenance, repairs, and inspections for medium and heavy duty trucks (above 11,500 lbs. gross vehicles).

The Off Road Shop is responsible for all maintenance, repairs, and inspections for all street sweepers, road graders, frontend loaders, tractors, trailers, and batwing mowers. The Off Road shop also handles all welding and fabrications. This shop has the capability to dispatch its technicians to perform on site repairs for our customers.

The Refuse Shop is responsible for all maintenance, repairs, and inspections for all refuse trucks for the City of Richmond. The shop is equipped with a service vehicle, allowing technicians to do on site repairs any where in the city.
