DPU to Host Senior Weatherization Kit Giveaway and Resource Events

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is working to connect senior residents to cost saving programs and resources. During the month of October, DPU will give away senior weatherization kits as part of its SeniorCare Program with a culminating event featuring other partner agencies who also provide resources and services geared toward the needs of seniors.

The final event, DPUCares Senior Weatherization Resource Event, will feature demonstrations and DPU customer service representatives who will assist seniors in signing up for DPU’s affordability programs along with partner agencies, including the Department of Social Services, Parks and Recreation Active Adults Division, the Sheriff’s Office and the Department on Aging and Disabilities.

Seniors can visit the locations listed below to receive a kit containing sample items such as weather stripping, plastic window covering, draft stopping outlet covers and an energy saving lightbulb. These items are designed to assist seniors with winterizing their homes and reducing their home heating costs. All Richmond seniors aged 65 and up (or a family member on their behalf) are encouraged to visit to receive a kit, while supplies last. All items are first come, first served.

In 2022, DPU provided more than 300 senior weatherization kits to Richmond residents. With proper home weatherization, customers can save an average of 11% on total energy costs.
